“When thou seest an eagle, thou seest a portion of genius: lift up thy head!” William Blake

PROLOGUE

As a child, I saw eagle images everywhere – on money, in military photos, medal insignias, on Eagle Scout uniforms, and in science textbooks.  I grew up in California, so the California bald eagle’s ominous stare was the logo for many companies and organizations.  And I remember thinking that those penetrating eyes – looking right through me – were scary.  It was like they knew too much. Like they could see what I could not. I had little understanding of why the eagle, with its demanding, gold, scary eyes - was so revered.

But this is because I did not yet understand that all of nature contains revelation purposely placed there by its Creator.  And I did not yet know that life instruction, encouragement and application is woven into every aspect of Creation – if we choose to discover it.  Or more importantly, if we allow ourselves to receive it.

The eagle is a unique symbol – not just because of its majestic presence in nature, or because of its super human vision, giant wing span and powerful talons. The eagle – its life, its culture – is a living metaphor.  When one truly studies the eagle in its natural environment, there is no argument for random existence – only purpose, guidance, wisdom, and ahh, yes…something we all need a little more of…hope.

This blog is far more than a science and nature lesson on birds.  Actually, an eagle isn’t a bird.  It’s a raptor.  Yeah, I didn’t know that either until I started studying them.  But the purpose of taking readers “on the wing” of this journey is to share the parable of the eagle and the amazing way the eagle can speak to the very practical pieces of our lives.  I’m talking about the day-to-day stuff:  decisions, insight, wisdom, encouragement, our future.  More importantly, the way God speaks through His creation – and reveals extra insights into His character and His unconditional love.  From the moment the eaglet arrives into the comfort of the nest, to the eaglet's push out of its comfort zone, to the eagle’s discovery of its destiny, to the mature eagle’s compulsion to reinvent and reinvest….I think you will at the very least find respect for a creature you may have only thought about in passing.

Everyone will receive something different from the parable off the eagle. That is the beauty of God’s purposeful creation.  He custom fits life applications so they are personal and meaningful – just to you – exactly where you're at in this moment of time.  There are no carbon copies to God - because every fingerprint is uniquely different.

Ultimately, only you will know how - or if - the parable of the eagle speaks to you.  But as you follow the posts throughout the weeks – prepare to fall in love, as I have, with this most wonderful creature…the eagle.  I encourage you to open your heart and spirit to the possibilities of renewed vision and purpose, of being watched and groomed, guided and strengthened under the loving wings of a Father who has perfectly timed your destiny.  Believe you can fly.  No, I take that back. Believe you can soar.

  2. Aww...Julia...this has been in me for so long that I will burst if it does not come out. I suspect the teaching you heard has been expanded by God's continual journey...I think I've arrived, been kicked out, and taken a million flying lessons since then...we'll see where we end up! No offense, but you are awesome!

  5. Cheryl,
A few days ago I heard The Father whisper, "And so it begins..." He just kept saying it over and over. So here it is...He's Coming! May He use the keyboard, and fill your mind and thoughts as He uses the vessel He placed you in to write these beautiful words. I can't wait to walk this journey with you through these posts. Love you, Woman!

  6. Darcy, you are such a true inspiration to me. When Iris passed, I did not know how God could make up for the hole her absence of mentoring left in me. But he gave me you...Love you!
